The second factor (some would argue the most important) is the quality of the dyestuffs used. Prior to the middle of the last century, all dyes were "natural". That is they were obtained from vegetable matter (and occasionally insects). The first synthetic aniline dyes to appear were of poor quality; they ran or faded or changed colour when exposed to light over a period of time. Most of these problems have been eliminated in modern "chrome" dyes if they are properly prepared. The advantage of modern dyes is also their primary disadvantage; being too colourfast does not allow the dyes to mellow naturally with time and use. Natural dyes are still in use, especially in Turkey and Iran. They are sought after as they age well, producing glorious, jewel-like colours with use.
In the store, examine the rug carefully. Examine the roots and knots. Is there a deeper colour at the root? This might indicate that the dye is fugitive to light. If the entire rug is lighter on the pile side than on the back, this normally indicates that the rug has been chemically washed (bleached).
A light washing is normal and not detrimental, but harsher bleaching can damage the fibres and reduce the longevity of the rug. Look at the pattern where light and dark colours meet. Have the darker dyes run?
If there is a solid field of a single colour, surprisingly, a completely uniform field is a negative feature. Look for some "Abrash" or slight colour variation. This adds depth, contributes to the "hand-woven" nature and usually indicates that the wool has been hand-spun and hand-dyed.
Some otherwise nice rugs are spoiled by the addition of garish or inharmonious colours; a "hot" synthetic orange is a principal offender, which unfortunately does not mellow with age.
•Knot count has more to do with the type of design than quality per se. A geometric design does not require as high a pattern resolution as a floral, curvilinear design. A floral design may not look right with 100 knots per square inch, while this may be perfect for a geometric rug of tribal village origins. Ask yourself whether the design looks right or clumsy. •Knot count ranges are specific to types of rugs. A Persian Heriz would typically have a coarse to medium weave (75-100 knots per square inch). Despite low knot count, Heriz rugs are sought after as treasured antiques.
The quality of the wool is more important than the knot count in determining durability. A coarsely woven rug with good wool will be far superior to a finer woven rug with poor quality wool. A chunky knot sweater does not wear faster than a fine knit cardigan.
The knot count is more of a consideration when buying "programmed lines" of rugs. These are mass-produced rugs (mainly from India) with a set pattern made in a standard range of sizes (4x6, 6x9, 8x10, etc.) These rugs are very different from one-of-a-kind pieces which are the product of the individual weaver's heritage, creativity, and skill.
In general, the number of knots in a rug represents the amount of labour that has gone into it. If you are interested only in the amount of labour rather than the quality of materials, authenticity of design and overall aesthetic appeal, then knot count is important. Otherwise ... NOT!

]]>Persian rugs are a timeless representation of the enduring traditions and culture of the Middle East. These rugs have been woven in the region for thousands of years and are renowned for their intricate designs and quality craftsmanship. For many people, owning a Persian rug is not only an investment in a decorative piece but also a connection to the rich history and artistry of the region.
Persian rugs are more than just floor coverings. They are works of art that reflect the history and culture of the people who make them. The Persian carpet has been developed over several centuries, with each new generation of weavers adding their unique designs and techniques to the craft. Because these rugs are made by hand, each carpet is one of a kind and represents the vision and skill of the artist who created it.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Persian rugs is the symbolism behind the patterns and motifs used in their designs. Persian rugs have been woven for centuries and are considered to be some of the most beautiful and intricate pieces of art. The art of Persian rug weaving has been passed down from generation to generation, with each family adding their unique touch to the craft.
First and foremost, it is crucial to purchase a rug made by an experienced weaver. The quality of the craftsmanship is key to determining how valuable the rug will be over time. Persian rug weaving is a labor-intensive process that requires skill and patience. A skilled weaver will be able to create a rug that is not only visually stunning but also durable and long-lasting.
Second, look for rugs made from natural materials such as silk or wool, as these materials will ensure the rug lasts for generations. Silk rugs are known for their luster and softness, while wool rugs are known for their durability and resilience. This article will explore the rich history of Persian rugs, the art of Persian rug making, popular types of Persian rugs, and tips for selecting the perfect one for your home.
Persian rugs are a true testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the Iranian people. These beautiful pieces of woven art have been treasured for centuries and continue to be sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today. Let's take a closer look at the fascinating history of Persian rugs.
The origins of Persian rugs can be traced back to ancient times, with some estimates dating back as far as 2500 B.C. As Persian tribes migrated throughout the vast expanse of modern-day Iran, they developed distinct styles of rugmaking based on local traditions and resources.
For many centuries, Persian rugs have played an integral role in Middle Eastern culture. They have been used to adorn homes, palaces, mosques, and even caravans traveling along the Silk Road. Persian rugs are not only prized for their beauty and functionality, but they also hold deep cultural and religious significance.
For example, in Islamic culture, it is believed that only Allah can create perfection, so rug weavers intentionally include small imperfections in their designs as a sign of humility and respect for a higher power. Additionally, many Persian rugs feature intricate designs and symbols that hold significant meaning in Iranian culture, such as the Tree of Life, which represents the connection between heaven and earth.
Over time, Persian rug designs evolved to incorporate a variety of styles and motifs. Some of the earliest Persian rugs featured geometric designs in earth tones created from natural dyes. As trade and cultural influences increased, Persian rug weavers began incorporating designs from other parts of the world, such as the intricate floral patterns found in Turkish and Indian rugs.
By the 16th century, Persian rugs gained popularity throughout Europe, with wealthy patrons commissioning weavers to create custom rugs embossed with their family crests or heraldry. The Safavid dynasty (1501-1736) was a particularly important period in Persian rugmaking, as the arts flourished under royal patronage.
During this time, Persian rug weavers began experimenting with new materials and techniques, such as the use of silk and gold thread. This led to the creation of even more intricate and luxurious rugs, which were highly sought after by the elite of Persian society and beyond.
Today, Persian rugs remain a global symbol of luxury and elegance. They are often used to add warmth and character to homes and offices, and are prized for their durability and intricate designs.
Some of the most famous Persian rug weavers include the Qashqai, Bakhtiari, and Kurdish tribes, as well as the legendary Persian city of Tabriz. Each of these regions has its distinct styles and patterns, passed down through generations of master weavers.
For example, the Qashqai tribe is known for their use of bold colors and geometric patterns, while the Bakhtiari tribe is famous for their use of natural dyes and intricate designs. The Kurdish tribes are known for their use of bright colors and bold, symmetrical designs.
One notable example is the Tabriz rug, which is renowned for its intricate weaves and dense pile. These rugs often feature elaborate floral or medallion designs and are incredibly durable. Other famous Persian rugs include the Isfahan and Kashan rugs, which are prized for their fine knotting and use of luxurious materials like silk and gold thread.
Whether you are a collector or simply appreciate the beauty and history of Persian rugs, there is no denying the enduring appeal of these exquisite works of art.
The art of Persian rug making is an ancient craft that has been passed down through generations. The intricate designs, vibrant colors, and high-quality materials make Persian rugs some of the most sought-after in the world.
Persian rugs are crafted using only the highest quality materials, including wool, silk, and cotton. The wool is often sourced from local sheepherders and is washed, carded, and spun into yarns. Silk is typically used for more delicate rugs and adds a luminous sheen to the finished product.
One of the most impressive aspects of Persian rug making is the use of intricate knots to create the design. Each knot is tied by hand using a specialized tool, and the number of knots per square inch determines the quality and value of the rug. Some of the finest Persian rugs feature more than one million knots per square inch!
The weaving process is also a traditional technique that has been used for centuries. The loom is set up with the warp threads running vertically, and the weft threads are woven horizontally through the warp. This creates a strong and durable foundation for the rug.
Another important aspect of Persian rug making is the use of natural dyes. Colours are derived from a variety of sources, including plants, insects, and minerals, and vivid hues like red, blue, and green are common. The use of natural dyes creates a depth and richness of color that cannot be replicated with synthetic dyes.
The dyeing process is a time-consuming and delicate process. The yarns are first washed and then soaked in a dye bath for several hours. The yarns are then rinsed and hung to dry. This process is repeated several times to achieve the desired color intensity and shade.
In addition to their beauty, Persian rugs are incredibly durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic and general wear and tear. Proper care and maintenance are essential to keeping your Persian rug in top condition.
Regular vacuuming is important to remove dirt and dust that can accumulate in the fibers. Spills should be treated immediately to prevent staining, and professional cleaning should be done every few years to remove deep-seated dirt and stains.
With proper care, a Persian rug can last for generations and become a treasured family heirloom.
Persian rugs are some of the most beautiful and sought-after rugs in the world, with a rich history and tradition that dates back centuries. Each type of Persian rug has its own unique style and character, reflecting the culture and traditions of the region where it was made. Here are some of the most popular types of Persian rugs:
Tribal rugs are some of the oldest and most traditional types of Persian rugs, imbued with the distinct styles and patterns of different nomadic tribes. These rugs were originally made for practical purposes, to provide warmth and comfort in the harsh desert climate. Over time, they became a form of artistic expression, with weavers creating intricate designs that reflected their cultural heritage and personal style. Tribal rugs often feature bold geometric designs, rich earth tones, and a rougher texture than city rugs. They are perfect for adding a touch of rustic charm to any room in your home.
City rugs are typically produced in urban centers like Isfahan, Tabriz, and Kashan and are known for their fine knotting and intricate floral patterns. These rugs are the epitome of elegance and sophistication, with a softness and delicacy that is unmatched. City rugs are often made of silk or a combination of wool and silk, giving them a luxurious sheen and texture. They are perfect for formal spaces like dining rooms or bedrooms, where they can add a touch of glamour and refinement.
Silk rugs are some of the most luxurious and sought-after Persian rugs, known for their vibrant colors and intricate designs. These rugs are made entirely of silk, giving them a softness and luminosity that is unmatched. Silk rugs are often used in formal settings like dining rooms or bedrooms, where they can add a touch of elegance and sophistication. They are perfect for showcasing your impeccable taste and style.
Gabbeh rugs are a more recent development in Persian rug making, emerging in the 20th century. These rugs are known for their thick, plush pile and bright, bold colors, often featuring whimsical designs like animals or abstract shapes. Gabbeh rugs are perfect for casual spaces like living rooms or family rooms, where they can add a touch of playfulness and fun. These rugs are also incredibly durable, making them a great choice for high-traffic areas.
Whether you prefer the rustic charm of tribal rugs or the elegance of city rugs, there is a Persian rug that is perfect for your home. With their rich history and tradition, these rugs are not just functional pieces of decor, but works of art that will be treasured for generations to come.
When selecting a Persian rug, it's essential to look for signs of quality and authenticity. The number of knots per square inch, the type of materials used, and the consistency of the pattern are all indicators of a high-quality rug. It's also important to purchase from a reputable dealer who can provide information on the rug's origin and history.
The perfect Persian rug should fit the dimensions and shape of your room, creating a cohesive and balanced look. Consider the placement of furniture, doorways, and other architectural elements when choosing a rug size and shape. For example, a round rug can soften the angles of a square room, while a runner is perfect for a hallway or narrow space.
Finally, it's essential to choose a Persian rug that complements your existing décor, rather than clashes with it. While Persian rugs often feature bold designs and colors, they can still be incorporated into a variety of decorating styles. Consider the colors and patterns of your furniture, wall art, and accessories when choosing a rug, and look for complementary or contrasting colors to create a cohesive look.
In conclusion, Persian rugs are a timeless and beautiful addition to any home or space. With their rich history, intricate designs, and fine materials, they are sure to add warmth and elegance to any setting. So why not discover the beauty of Persian rugs today?
Oriental rugs are beautiful pieces of artwork that can add style and flair to any room. They are often made with high-quality materials and intricate designs that make them unique and valuable. However, with this beauty comes fragility. Oriental rugs can be damaged easily if not taken care of properly. In this article, we will discuss the key tips for preserving the beauty of your Oriental rug and the best ways to protect it from damage.
If you have invested in an Oriental rug, you want to ensure that it remains beautiful for years to come. Oriental rugs are not just any ordinary rugs, they are a piece of art that carries with it the rich cultural heritage of the East. Here are five tips for preserving the beauty of your Oriental rug:
Over time, heavy foot traffic can cause wear and tear in certain areas of your rug. Rotating the rug every few months will help prevent this damage and ensure that the rug wears evenly. You might also want to consider placing furniture pads under the legs of your furniture to prevent them from leaving permanent indentations on your rug. This will also help distribute the weight evenly across the rug.
Placing a rug pad underneath your Oriental rug will help keep it in place and provide added cushioning. This can prevent sliding and scrunching of the rug, which can cause damage to the delicate fibers. Rug pads also help to absorb the impact of foot traffic, reducing the stress on the rug fibers and prolonging the life of your Oriental rug.
Keeping your Oriental rug clean is essential for preserving its beauty. Regular vacuuming will help remove dirt and debris that could be ground into the rug fibers and cause damage over time. It is recommended that you vacuum your Oriental rug at least once a week, or more often if it is located in a high traffic area. Use a vacuum cleaner with a beater bar or rotating brush to help loosen and remove dirt from the rug fibers.
If you spill something on your Oriental rug, it’s important to spot clean the area immediately. Use a mild detergent and water to clean the stain, and blot the area rather than rubbing it to prevent further damage. You can also use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean the stain, but be sure to test it on a small, inconspicuous area of the rug first to ensure that it does not cause any damage.
Consider having your Oriental rug professionally cleaned every one to three years. Professional cleaners have the right tools and techniques to deep clean your rug without causing damage. They can also identify and treat any stains or other issues that could affect the beauty and longevity of your Oriental rug. Professional cleaning can help to restore the vibrant colors and intricate patterns of your Oriental rug, ensuring that it remains a beautiful and valuable addition to your home for many years to come.
When it comes to Oriental rug care, consistency is key. Following a few simple steps consistently can ensure that your rug remains beautiful for years to come. Here are a few tips for maintaining your Oriental rug over time:
Firstly, when it comes to cleaning your Oriental rug, it’s important to remember that less is more. Vacuuming your rug regularly is a great way to keep it clean, but be sure to use a low-suction vacuum to avoid damaging the fibers. It’s also a good idea to avoid using a beater bar, which can be too harsh for the delicate fibers of your rug.
Another important factor to consider when maintaining your Oriental rug is the use of rug pads. Rug pads can help prevent slipping and sliding, while also providing extra cushioning and support for your rug. Be sure to choose a rug pad that is specifically designed for use with Oriental rugs, as other types of rug pads may be too abrasive.
Finally, if you’re ever unsure about how to care for your Oriental rug, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. A professional rug cleaner can provide expert advice and care for your rug, ensuring that it remains beautiful and vibrant for years to come.
Oriental rugs are a beautiful addition to any home, but they require proper maintenance to keep them looking their best. Even with the best care, Oriental rugs can still become damaged over time. The key is to spot the signs of damage early and take action to prevent it from worsening. Here are a few things to look out for:
1. Fraying or unraveling: If you notice fraying or unraveling along the edges of your Oriental rug, it’s a sign that the rug is starting to deteriorate. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including foot traffic, vacuuming, and even pets. To prevent further damage, consider having the edges of your rug reinforced by a professional.
2. Holes or tears: Holes or tears in the rug can be caused by heavy foot traffic or furniture placement. Watch out for these signs of wear and tear and take action if you notice any damage. If the damage is minor, you may be able to have it repaired by a professional. However, if the damage is extensive, it may be time to consider replacing the rug altogether.
3. Fading or discoloration: Excessive exposure to sunlight can cause your Oriental rug to fade or lose its color. Keep an eye out for signs of fading and rotate the rug regularly to prevent further damage. Additionally, consider using window treatments to block out the sun's harmful rays.
Remember, prevention is key when it comes to maintaining the beauty and longevity of your Oriental rug. Avoid placing heavy furniture on the rug, and consider using a rug pad to provide extra cushioning and support. Regularly vacuuming and spot cleaning can also help to prevent damage and keep your rug looking its best.
When it comes to Oriental rugs, they are not just any ordinary rugs! They are a piece of art that adds beauty and elegance to your home. Hence, it is important to take good care of them to ensure that they last for a long time. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
By following these tips and staying vigilant for signs of damage, you can protect your Oriental rug from damage and ensure that it remains beautiful for years to come. Remember, taking good care of your rug is not just an investment in your home decor, but also an investment in a piece of art that has been crafted with love and care.

If you're one of the 66% of Canadians that's proud to call themselves a homeowner, you've likely looked for new ways to spice up your home once or twice. One of the most effective ways to do this, as you may have already realized, is to get beautiful area rugs that match your decor and draw each room in your home together.
However, not all rugs are created equal. In fact, the different ways that rugs can be crafted make them distinctly unequal. Machine-made knockoff versions of oriental rugs are often what are sold in stores, but these are incredibly low quality. You're going to want to identify and purchase something real, gorgeous, and handmade.
But what exactly is an oriental rug? How is it made differently from those in a factory, and how can you identify them from one another? Why does it even matter that you get a handmade rug over a machine-made one?
Here, we're going to answer these questions to ensure that you get a high-quality rug for your home.
An oriental rug is one that's handmade. More specifically, these rugs are hand-knotted until they match the weaver's vision.
The person who creates these rugs will insert knots into the fabric and tie each of them by hand, which requires a lot of time, effort, and devotion to the craft. The process itself can take months to even years for more complex designs.
Oriental rugs are made in nations like Iran (called 'Persia' at the time many of the rugs were made.) This country is the #1 producer of oriental rugs, and we're proud to sell carpeting made by hand by the Iranian people. Many other oriental rugs are made in China, India, Turkey, and Russia, among other places.
Machine-made area rugs are created in large factories. While some of these factories are in North America, the vast majority of them are abroad. Countries like China, Vietnam, and Cambodia ship these low-quality rugs overseas and North American vendors sell them at a low price.
These machine-made rugs are manufactured with a piece of machinery called a power loom, which is controlled by computers and automated to create patterns in the fabric. Generally, the fabric quality is initially poor even before being made into rugs. Synthetic fibers like polypropylene, nylon, and polyester are the most commonly used.
The only real benefit to machine-made rugs is that they're easy to find and affordable. If you walk into pretty much any store in Canada, these area rugs are the kind that you're going to find. This might sound like a benefit, but it actually isn't a good thing. These rugs are incredibly low-quality since they're mass-produced- the people who make them don't put any care into each individual rug.
This is also the cost of the rug's low prices. The low quality of machine-made rugs means that though it'll be an affordable purchase, you'll need to replace it sooner rather than later. This makes oriental rugs a much better value since you won't need to replace them. Oriental rugs can sometimes last for generations, so your children may not need to replace them, either!
If you're like most people and you aren't trained to distinguish oriental rugs from imitation ones, it can be incredibly difficult to figure out which is which. However, there are a couple of ways that you can begin to spot which rugs are handmade and which are mass-produced.
First, handmade rugs can be identified by looking at the back of the rug. If there is some level of detail on it, that means that the rug is of higher quality. While machine-made rugs tend to have white plastic or fabric backing, authentic ones do not have this. Instead, you would be able to flip a handmade rug over and use it with few differences in appearance.
The way that the knots on a rug look are also a surefire way to indicate their method of creation. On machine-made rugs, the knots will appear entirely even. However, handmade rugs look a bit more human, with uneven and not completely uniform knots.
Also, on a machine-made rug, the fringe will perform no function when it comes to holding your rug together. The fringe on a handmade rug is an integral part of its design because each knot exists to end a thread at the edge of the rug.
In any case, there's no need to fret. Any rug that you purchase from us is guaranteed to be authentic and handmade, meaning that you won't need to go through the stress of weeding out the machine-made ones!
Now that you know the difference between authentic oriental rugs and machine-made knockoffs, it's time to learn the benefits of the former over the latter. Read on to learn more about the benefits of traditional handmade Persian and oriental rugs so that you fully understand why purchasing one is the right choice!
When you buy oriental rugs- especially of the antique variety- you know that the object you're getting has a rich history. Maybe it was created by someone in Persia in the early 1920s. This person may have enjoyed crafting as a way to detract from the stress of governmental upheaval. Maybe it was made as an act of self-expression and defiance in Mao's China.
In any case, you know that your rug has an individual and rich history behind it when you buy something authentic. Each and every design has a story to tell and, at the core of it, a person who has something that they wanted to say through their art.
Even if you choose to purchase a new oriental rug, you'll show your support for someone who has a story to tell today.
The authenticity and craftsmanship of Oriental and Persian rugs, of course, leads to higher quality products. Because handcrafted rugs take longer to make and are made with better materials, they're going to last much longer.
You won't need to replace them, possibly for the rest of your life. You can get them cleaned, repaired, or refurbished at an affordable rate, too, so you'll never need to worry about a decline in their value!
High-quality materials ensure that your rug will have brighter and more vibrant colors throughout its entire lifespan. It also prevents scuffing and regular wear-and-tear that could damage a machine-made rug after a very short amount of time.
Factories like those that create machine-made rugs are terrible for the environment. Air and water pollution are rampant in industrial cities, and nations in Asia are suffering miserably from this pollution. When you buy handmade rugs, you aren't supporting these factories and contributing to the environmental damages that they create.
You also will support the small businesses in Canada (like us!) that sell these handmade rugs. Plus, you'll be supporting independent creators abroad at the same time! This has widespread economic benefits because you'll be giving your money to actual people to funnel back into the economy rather than to large corporations.
If you purchase handmade oriental rugs, you support the people and families that created them. This allows artists to make a living off the work that they do. Even if the creator of the rug you select is long dead, you're supporting their family and community as well as paving the way for other artists to sell their creations and make a living.
However, the majority of humanitarian benefits from buying oriental rugs come from the fact that you won't be supporting terrible labor conditions abroad. Most machine-made rugs are, as we said before, from China and other Asian countries whose outsourced labor we use. The terrible working conditions for those who create machine-made rugs are, to understate, human rights violations. Buying handmade oriental rugs ensures that you do your part to fight against these violations.
On the other hand, many handmade oriental rugs are also from abroad. You can support local artists in these nations by purchasing an authentic rug!
While imitation rugs have been growing in popularity over the past couple of decades, it's time for the higher-quality classics to make a comeback.
Now that you know the benefits of oriental rugs over machine-made imitations, it's time to get shopping for affordable and high-quality rugs. Click here to contact us and book an appointment to view our oriental rug gallery. This is an amazing day activity, so schedule an appointment right now! If you prefer to order online, that's also alright, though- we have a huge number of styles that can be delivered directly to your doorstep.
Have fun decorating with the best oriental rugs!

I have always been very highly regarded as a Persian Tabriz Rug. I am sought after all over the world, and most people would love to have me in their home! Allow me to please introduce myself, I am Thomas the Tabriz.
Hailing from my very far away home of Iran, in the city of Tabriz. I was born in 1959 and spent only a brief time in Iran before coming to Canada. I am a handsome looking Tabriz Rug, hand-knotted in jewel tones. Woven with the most refined and delicate designs. My medallion is stunning, along with my all over Herati pattern. I must say, I'm a refined-looking and sophisticated Tabriz.
I have lived with Ms.Richards here in Stratford, Ontario since my arrival. Home has always been incredibly pleasant and comfortable. Ms. Richards made her living as a therapist. The living room, where I was laid out, was also where she saw her clients. Yes, my life was more than interesting! I had truly heard it all!
Nights were quiet, she would cook dinner and occasionally have a few friends over. Almost every night you could find her nose in a book. She would start reading on the sofa until she eventually would sit cross-legged on me. I never minded, I loved to know that despite my elegance, I was the type of Persian Rug you could also cuddle up with.
I was always cared for. She never regarded me like just any old area rug. She made sure that I was regularly vacuumed and she even rotated me on a regular basis. She would check for any rug repairs that needed to be done but I was in great shape! She always paid extra attention to me, I was a very fortunate Persian carpet.
Over the years I had met many interesting people and heard the most fascinating stories, but nothing, nothing at all could prepare me for who I would meet next! Life as I knew it would forever be different. and I would become somewhat shocked and appaled in the days to come.
It started out like any other day, all was well. I could smell the lovely smell of freshly brewed coffee. I knew that meant that she would be coming in momentarily. But that day was different, she never walked in. I heard the door open along with loud commotion. Suddenly I was greeted by a furry white creature. He ran amuck in the living room, his breath was atrocious and he ran all over me and sniffed me, my every square inch!
It didn't stop there, he panted and drooled, and ran around in circles. The worst part was that Ms. Richards was laughing like she was enjoying it all. She held him and told him he was a "good boy". A good boy I thought, he'll be the end of me!
My days were now torturous and very long. There were no more quiet and relaxing evenings. Not for this Persian Rug! My evenings were filled strange squeaking toys and barking sounds, with her gushing nonstop over this animal. Who by the way she called "Lucky".
She did seem happy though, she laughed a lot and smiled more. I realized that this was not going to change. Lucky seemed like a permanent fixture in our home. I knew that all those hours of therapy and coping skills would somehow pay off! I would have to learn how to adjust.
A few days later, I'll admit, I started to really warm up to Lucky. He was sort of cute and seemed to have taken a liking to me. I thought all would be well. I couldn't have been more wrong. This Lucky character had some nerve, he actually lifted his hind leg and well you know, I got sprinkled on. I was aghast and in utter shock. To say I was dismayed would be an understatement!
This was terrible. I was wet and smelled awful. I had never felt so disgusting in all my life! Ms. Richards began to try and blot me off and Lucky was lightly reprimanded and told that he was a "bad boy". My only hope was that I would go away and be professionally clean! I have had rug cleaning services before and now I was in dire need of another!
I prayed that she would please contact a carpet cleaning company! I was suffering immensely having to smell this putrid smell! Finally, a couple of days later a man walked in the living room, "yes, he assured her, free pick up and delivery". He then asked if I needed repair services as well. I was then rolled up and placed on his strong shoulders. Let the rug cleaning begin!
My Area Rug Cleaning went great! I felt like I haven't in years, and I must say, I knew that I looked better than ever! I may have been a vintage rug, but I felt brand new. I not only got a Persian Rug cleaning, but I also had the special service of being deodorized! A must-have service for all pet owners! I couldn't wait to go back home and be laid out in all my Persian Rug glory!
Upon my arrival back home I was greeted by a very happy Persian Rug owner, and one very excited Lucky! The gentleman from Rug District carried me back into the living room and unrolled me. Ms. Richards was so pleased with the outstanding customer service. She told him she would spread the word that they were indeed the very best Rug Cleaners in town! She was more than delighted, I was now an immensely clean area rug!
And so my friends, life goes on, with Lucky included! Who I have since learned is what humans call a "dog". I just hope that I never see Lucky lift his leg again! Just one more thing before I leave, if you ever do need any rug cleaning and repair, Rug District comes highly recommended! For Silk Rugs, Antique Rugs, Wool Rugs, or any Oriental Rug Cleaning. This is the place to call, and I should know, after all, I'm a Rug!
]]>Hi, my name is Samantha, how do you do? This is a once-secret part of my life story, lived as a Persian Rug.
Woven as an incredibly hand-knotted, striking Persian Sarouk Rug. Some might even describe me as beautiful. Born in Iran in 1943, yes that's probably quite a bit older than you are. Instead of "old" or a vintage rug, I like to say that I'm a fine antique.
Canada has always felt like home. I don't have much recollection of living in Iran but have heard that I am from the Arak weaving district of Iran.
I am a heavy body type of rug. My pile is thick and dense, the foundation is made of cotton and my designs are of elaborate looking lovely florals. Colourful as well, woven in reds, blues, ivory with a slight tinge of yellow around my edges. Of course, you will also find the trademark colour of almost every Sarouk Rug on me as well, Salmon Pink.
My medallion is, of course, one of my best features. It's a hexagon shape, and it makes me very eye-catching. My colours stand out and so do my very pronounced designs.
Living most of my life in Ontario, Canada. In a big city called Toronto. The house was very spacious and large. Placed in the immense living room, I happily spent most of my time there as an admired Persian Carpet.
Having lived with some fine and exquisite things, my life was mostly spent admiring beauty. My owners collected Art. Among me were renaissance like imposing bronze statues, priceless paintings. ornate looking hand-carved furniture and a large and impressive marble fireplace.
My life was wonderful! Never was I regarded as just a boring area rug. Besides living in such a high-end glamorous home, I simply adored my owners. There was Mr. Edward James Lexington the III and his wife, Florence Jane.
There were a housekeeper and a cook. I never knew the cook, but the housekeeper and I became very good friends. her name was Macy. She tended to that home with such care and loved to sing while she immaculately vacuumed me.
Mr. Lexington was a very successful lawyer and Florence first started out as a telephone operator and then became his secretary. They travelled quite a bit so whenever they would return home I was always so eager to see them. They never had any children but kept a very busy social life.
There were always big, fancy dinner parties for at least ten, and every occasion was carefully planned by Mrs. Lexington. I was always noticed and remarked about, especially during their elaborate parties.
Crystal glasses toasting, expensive shoes happily clicking and jewellery slightly clinking from their dance. It was a complete whirlwind! With so much laughter and chatter, I immensely enjoyed these occasions and they all took place on me.
It began to become a quieter place., and over the years the company stopped coming so frequently. There were less and less fancy dinners, and Macy had since retired. Mr. and Mrs. Lexington had both become "antique" themselves.
There were only low and quiet voices every now and again. Both had aged and were somewhat frail. Mr. Lexington used a cane, and the Mrs.could barely walk. The living room was basically void of humans, being walked on was a rarity.
After some time, there was extreme quietness. The bird's chirp from outside was a highlight on most days. The occasional chime of the doorbell could be heard but was barely ever answered.
Being not such a young Persian Rug anymore, things, unfortunately, began to feel different. I desperately longed to hear Macy sing to me again, to be cleaned, to be gathered around, to be danced on. The days grew longer and I grew distressed and tired.
One day as I lay sleeping two men suddenly came in the room. They wore heavy dirty work boots and aggressively came at me trying to move me. At first, they tried to fold me. They eventually realized that I could not be folded. Finally, they rolled me up and tied my ends very tightly, with thick rope. I was then haphazardly thrown into the back of a van
After a short and all too bumpy ride, I was then removed and placed into what seemed like a very small dark room. These men clearly had no idea who I was!
The door closed, and they decided to place me rolled up on the floor. In all my life, I had never been treated like this. It was a terrible place. I could sometimes hear muffled voices in the hallway. But other than that, there was no one to be found.
I was never so alone as in that awful dark room. I missed my owners, my usual floor and the sound of the birds chirping outside. I could only dream now of escaping this torture. Among the coldness, there was an oppressive dampness in the air. It felt as though, I was rotting. This was no place for a lady, I mean, a Persian rug like me!
Time was cruel in that room. I started to experience burn from the where the rope was tied and an odd like pain that I had never felt before. It was all over me, everywhere. I thought it was just my pangs of loneliness. But these were awful pinch like sensations and biting. I was in excruciating pain.
It finally dawned on me what these "pangs were. Unfortunately, I had become a feast for some hungry, evil moths! They started to devour me! I was being eaten alive by the hour. Their sticky,web-like texture was stuck all over my underside. Life can be hard for a Persian Rug or an Oriental Rug.
This was the worst thing that had ever happened to me, hope was hard to come by. Each painful bite was like getting your skin ripped off. These moths were destroying me, actually eating my once colourful and beautiful pile.
Hope was not enough, this went on and on for what felt like an eternity. Is all I could think of was how I could escape. My days were spent longing for someone to walk in and notice me, to save me. These were more than desperate times for an almost destroyed, and half-eaten rug like me.
Through my torment, I sweetly reminisced about my former glory days. Probably making them better than they actually were, but still, anything was better than smelling awful, feeling wet and being eaten by bugs! My saving grace would be a rug cleaning and repair.
Surprisingly outside the door one day, under the crack of some very dim light, I saw feet and heard shuffling shoes. They talked for a minute and the next thing I knew, the door was opening. What was left of my pile stood up high at attention, could it be? Was I finally going to be saved?
There were two men, one of the gentleman hurriedly untied my ends as if he was eager to see me. It felt heavenly to be moved and to finally be rid of that thick and fraying rope!
He began to explain to the other man that I had been improperly stored for almost six months, and because of that, I had some extensive damage. He assured him that he could fix me! He explained that Rug District did Persian Rug Cleaning, Oriental Rug Cleaning and Area Rug Cleaning. This was like a dream come true!
He knew that I was a Sarouk Persian Rug and he even guessed my age and knew of the city I was born! He proceeded to tell him about all the rug services I would require. First off, he said that I would definitely need a professional carpet cleaning, and after that of course, some repair services.
Finally, I was going to be a repaired rug! A professional clean first though! My very improper storage had really hurt me. This was going to feel beyond amazing. I would not be forgotten after all! My pick up and delivery went smoothly. Arriving at what I knew was going to be a great Rug Cleaners!
After my Rug Cleaning services, I felt like a new rug! Next, I was off to the expert repair person on staff. Carefully I was repaired. My pile was again full and there was absolutely no trace that any moth had ever touched me. Rug District certainly had great customer service! I felt incredible!
I was then delivered to a brand new home and landed up in the Toronto GTA area. I would terribly miss Mr. and Mrs. Lexington but I knew that my life had to go on. I still think of Macy singing to me, I hear her voice when I dream.
My new family is kind and loving and very down to earth. There are three very playful children, a dog and two cats. I'm sure I'll have another story soon!
Just a wise word of advice. from an "antique" Sarouk Persian Rug ... because of my very improper storage, I faced issues that could have been avoided. I almost rotted to death from the dampness and was almost eaten alive by moths. I have only survived to tell you this story because of Rug District.
If you value your Silk Rug, Persian Rug, Oriental Rug or Area Rug, please contact Rug District for a happy ending!
Until then my friends, take care of each other and your precious Rugs.
Sincerely,
Samantha The Sarouk
]]>I've been around a long time, been lugged across the world, met many intriguing people and have witnessed many, many interesting things. I should introduce myself to you, I'm Harold, the Heriz.
Born in the county of Heriz, Iran. Near the slopes of Mount Sabalan. Surrounded by springs, and it's unique soil that is heavily rich in copper. A very enchanting place, from what I can remember.
I was born in 1959, I'm a sixty-year-old Persian Rug. I'm a big guy, 9X12 to be exact. It took the weavers over three years to make me. I am stronger than most, my hand-knotted wool is infused with the strength of copper.
Bold and durable, made to last for generations. My designs are large and geometric looking. Some people say I look tribal. I am distinctive looking, and yes I'm tough!
When I left Iran as a young Persian rug, I Bravely travelled halfway around the world. My home became Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
I've been through so much in this life, I've seen it all, felt it all. I have had food and drink spilled on me, babies crawl across me, stiletto heels have pressed into me, and dirty work boots have stomped across me. It's not easy being a Persian Rug.
I live in what you would call a "charming" neighbourhood. Well kept gardens, and the streets lined with rows of maple trees. In an old red brick, Victorian-looking home. I was placed in the living room and sit under a colourful window of stained glass.
I share the house with Mr. and Mrs. Clayton. There used to be five kids. It used to be a really busy place you know. People in and out, lots of traffic walking all over me. Countless Christmas's, birthday parties, break ups, makeups, family dinners. We've been through it all together, and most of it took place on me.
Over the years I've been vacuumed a lot. Dusted around, halfway lifted sometimes so the floor underneath me could be cleaned. Gone through at least three renovations. I used to think I had it all, I would tell myself, Harold you're a lucky guy! I was, until the last renovation. The last one was about ten years ago and I haven't been the same since.
Time had not been all that kind to me. I was beginning to show my age. All the traffic had taken a toll. At the entrance of where I was laid in the living room, my fringes were wearing off. I began to unravel and pieces of me were falling off and landing inside the vacuum cleaner. I cringed when I heard that violent machine! It hurt so much, imagine parts of you being so cruelly sucked up by a vacuum!
If that was not enough for one rug to handle, the Mrs. was gifted a large plant inside of a heavy clay planter. After the renovation was completed she decided it would be perfect with her newly arranged living room. She also decided to have her husband place it right on top of me!
Not that I have anything against plants, but Mrs. Clayton seemed to have overlooked the fact that the clay planter had holes in the bottom! Each time she watered the plant, she was also, unfortunately, watering me.
Well, wouldn't ya know it, the plant grew, and grew until it started to outgrow the big planter. The leaves touched me, dangled down on my wool. Beneath that clay planter, I was slowly rotting away. Day by day, I suffered alone in silence and I knew that I was dying.
They never seemed to notice the damage on me. I was in severe pain from my rotting wool. I was not only old but also disintegrating more and more. All the while I was suffering, and desperately needed repair. I never thought it would have come to this, I never thought I would have to admit this, but I needed to be saved.
One Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Clayton had a houseful. It sort of felt like old times. The doorbell rang repeatedly. All the now grown-up kids were there and even some of their kids. I tried my very best to enjoy the visit. But I was in so much pain from my wet and rotting wool. I didn't know how much time I had left. I didn't enjoy being walked on anymore, or even being admired. I felt like I was dying and no one, not a soul noticed.
After an hour or so, another guest arrived. This one had a dog. A big, and scary, drool dripping down its face sort of dog. He growled at me, and his ears stood up. I thought, Oh dog what do want with an old rug like me? Please just leave me alone!
I'll never know what got into him but all of a sudden his growls became deep and serious. Then he started to do the unthinkable! He actually had the audacity to bite at my corner, damaging the other end of me! Now both ends of my fringes needed fixing! Can you imagine, this dog was destroying me, trying to pull me apart, trying to unravel me! The nerve, the nerve of this dog!
Of course, this caused quite a commotion in the living room. Everyone in that house had to come and see what that dog had done to me! The owner, of course, apologized and said he would gladly pay for any of the damage that his dog had done.
Then, emerging from the crowd, low and behold, one of Mr. Clayton's sons mentions " I know of a great Rug Cleaning company, Mary and I just got an area rug cleaned last week it turned out incredible. I think it's called Rug District. They deal with all sorts of rugs. Cleaning and repairing! They do Oriental Rug Cleaning, Persian Rug Cleaning, Area Rugs even fine Silk Rugs. Every rug service you could imagine"! Then he added," They also offer free pick up and delivery, and we thought their customer service was great"!
Well, let me tell you, I suddenly loved what that dog had done to me! If it weren't for him trying to rip me to shreds, boy, I don't know if I'd be telling you this story right now! Finally, it seemed that I, Harold the Heriz would survive. There was hope. Now it was just a waiting game.
Much to my surprise I never waited long at all. The very next afternoon, the doorbell rings and who was at the door you ask? Well, it was none other than a gentleman from Rug District, a Persian Rug Expert! He first said that I was a very handsome looking Heriz Rug. He knelt down to inspect my weakened condition. He explained to Mr. and Mrs, Clayton that they had expert rug repair people on staff and that my old, almost non-existent fringes could be repaired without a problem. His diagnosis was re-fringing at both ends
This was great news! The very moment I had been waiting for. He started to move the furniture off of me, which of course always feels good. It's sort of like taking off your socks and shoes at the end of a long day.
Then he did what I precisely needed, he moved that heavy clay, bane of my existence, planter off of me. AHHH what a relief. I just knew that he would save me. Needless to say, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton were so embarrassed about this. Especially Mrs. Clayton because after so many years she hadn't even noticed. He said that I had some very severe damage. There was a hole in me!
The diagnosis was more serious than anyone had expected. The list of repairs included re-fringing and lock stitching to keep the rest of me intact! Also a complete re-weaving of where my rot was. This would include new warp and weft. Basically, after these repairs, I would be like a new man, I mean a new rug!
He then began to roll me up and carried me away. I was a little nervous, but I had this feeling that we were about to embark on a great journey together. I was finally going to be fixed! He also suggested a professional rug cleaning, I had never been happier!
While I was away I was treated with such respect and dignity. I was not treated like just any old rug or a vintage rug. It was truly remarkable just how highly regarded I was.
Yes, I, Harold the Heriz would be tough and durable again! These people knew everything about me. Where I was born, my knots per square inch and even my exact age! I tell ya, they sure know how to treat a rug! I just knew that their rug cleaning and repair would be amazing!
Eventually, after my carpet cleaning procedure was done, I was handed over for my rug repair services. My wool stood up extra tall, like the hairs on your arm when you're scared.
It took the weaver some dedicated time to complete me. As one end of me was completely replaced with new fringes. My weakened corner where the dog had tried to tear me apart, had to be completely restructured. My rotted area had to be removed and rewoven. This meant new warp and weft with the proper wool and the exact matching of my colours. I was going to have an extensive rug restoration!
It's been a while now that I've been back home. I've settled in again, and guess what? The big, bad planter is gone! The Clayton's were so happy at the way I turned out! Mrs.Clayton said that from now on every couple years I'll be sent out for a professional carpet cleaning and I know they'll check me over for any repairs I might need!
Let this be a lesson to you kids, don't ignore your Persian Rugs! I strongly suggest that you please contact Rug District for any rug concern. Take it from me, a seasoned Persian Rug, they are the best rug cleaners around!
]]>Even though Oriental Rugs are extremely durable, it is always important to have them cared for properly. Here are a few Oriental Rug Care tips that will help them to last for generations.
Protect the beauty and value of your Oriental and Area Rugs with a professional carpet cleaning. Experts recommend having Persian and Oriental Rugs expertly hand washed every 2 to 5 years.
Harmful dirt and dust can easily hide in your area rug causing excessive damage. But pets and heavy traffic may require professional carpet cleaning once a year. An expert Area Rug Cleaning for your woven treasures is an important step in caring for your Oriental Rugs. Keep your valuable Persian Rugs looking vibrant and vividly beautiful with a professional carpet cleaning!
Rotating your Persian and Oriental Rugs should be done at least once a year. This should also be done more often in cases of very heavy foot traffic. A yearly rotation will ensure that your Oriental Rugs have more even wear. Rotating your Oriental Rugs will help them to remain beautiful and vibrant looking for generations!
A quality underpad for your Oriental & Area Rugs is ideal for comfort and of course, extra plushness! A carpet underpad is also a safety measure and will help to prevent any slipping.
An Oriental Rug underpad is also suitable in preventing any premature wear or stress. It will smooth out your area rug making sure it lays flat without any kinks or wrinkles.
Often overlooked, a carpet underpad is always a beneficial companion for your Oriental and Area Rugs.
Direct sunlight can damage your Persian Rugs. It is not ideal to have an Oriental Rug directly exposed to the bright and harmful rays of the sun.
Just like the skin on our faces, the sun can prematurely age us making us appear much older! The same goes for Oriental & Area Rugs.
Oriental Rugs can fade dramatically in the sun. The sun can alter many colours in your Oriental area rug. Vivid colours may fade.
Silk Rugs have an even lower tolerance to direct sunlight. Please protect these delicate woven treasures!
The intensity of the suns UV rays can even cause some weakness in the rug's material. Closing blinds and drapes will help to reduce the damage from sunlight. Be mindful of where you lay your beautiful oriental rug.
Vacuuming your Oriental Rugs is a very important step to maintaining it's luxurious beauty! The build-up of dust, dirt and pesky pet hair can leave your Persian Rugs looking dull and drab. Be cautious using a vacuum with a beater bar as it can grab onto the fringes or any loose fibres. Keep your Persian Rugs fresh and brilliant looking by giving them a thorough vacuuming at least once a week.
Sometimes accidents and spills happen, much to our dismay! While Oriental Rugs and Persian Rugs are durable, they do need some TLC! A small spill, if not tended to, can quickly become a disaster!
The next thing to do is to call a professional carpet cleaner and have your area rug properly cleaned!
Cleaning and repairing your rugs is very important. Any repairs to your hand knotted Oriental Rugs should be tended to as soon as you notice them.
Even if they seem to be very minor, these small issues can become major restorations if not attended to promptly. Small repair services are much less costly than a restoration!
Be sure that any Oriental Rug Repairs are done by a reputable rug cleaning and repair company.
Many rug cleaners offer rug cleaning services that are meant for wall to wall broadloom or area rugs with synthetic fibres. Steam cleaning Oriental Rugs will damage the fibres by stripping the natural oils from the wool.
Oriental and Area Rugs are always a welcome addition to any home. In order to enjoy their magnificent charm and beauty, follow our simple tips for your precious Oriental Rugs. After all, they are the soul of the room.
Rug District offers the best carpet cleaning services in Canada with outstanding customer service and free pick up and delivery.

Why worry about storing Oriental and Persian rugs? There are many reasons why the need may arise to properly store your woven treasures. Here are a few:
1/Maybe you're moving and are downsizing. Perhaps you're beautiful, but enormous rug that once sprawled across your living room floor will sadly not fit into your new condo.
2/You've just inherited a lovely rug from Grandma (lucky you!) but the size is just not suitable for your current living situation.
3/You're in the midst of a large home renovation. The project has grown larger and is taking much longer to complete. You need to protect your Persian Rugs from all of the work and mess!
4/While shopping, you were fortunate enough to come across a gorgeous handmade rug. You just had to have it! You just knew you couldn't live without it and would forever regret not bringing it home. The problem is you have no idea where to put it or need time to decide on its placement. Whatever the reason, most of us at some time or another will encounter an issue like one of the above.
If your Oriental Carpet is not stored properly you might have to deal with some even bigger issues, such as water damage, mould, or the very dreaded evil moth and other bug infestations.
Any of these problems could turn into a complete nightmare unless you are safely storing your precious Persian rugs. Here are some tips on safely storing your Oriental carpets:
First and foremost, you should most definitely give your rugs an expert oriental rug cleaning before you even consider storing them. This would be an ideal time to check them over very thoroughly and to make sure that they're not in need of a rug repair that need to be done.
Why would you want to store a dirty rug? A professional rug cleaning will put your mind at ease and help to further extend the life of your rug. Especially if it's a rug that you've inherited and may not have had a regular carpet cleaning.
Or an Oriental Rug found at an antique shop or estate sale that might seem clean enough but has harmful dust and dirt, or insects, deep in the pile. Giving your new Vintage Rug a professional rug cleaning is imperative before the storage even begins.
Never leave your Oriental Rugs folded while in storage! It might seem ideal if it's thin enough to fold, however you could be doing some severe damage to the construction of your rugs.
You could be creating some creases or cracks in the foundation of your rug. You could possibly be damaging the fibres, especially if it's an antique or a delicate rug.
Your Oriental Rugs should always be rolled. To roll up your Oriental Rug correctly, the pile of your rug should always be facing inwards. During the rolling, try and keep your rug as straight as possible so that it's rolled up evenly.
This can sometimes be a two-person job, especially if you're dealing with a very large area rug. You will need to roll the rug in tandem, making sure you're rolling the rug at the same pace to ensure it comes out evenly rolled. Also, try and use the same tension as your helper. You might have to roll it a few times over just to make sure it's rolled up right.
Wrapping your Oriental Carpet might be an option for its safety but it depends on the area you've chosen to store it. If the rug is being stored for a short term and in a dry suitable room, you could use a clean sheet of cotton.
This will need to be laid out and then wrapped. The ends of the cotton should be taped, not tucked inside the ends of the roll. However, the very best material for wrapping your rug would be polyurethane. This is the sort of protection a professional would opt for.
The polyurethane is the superior choice for wrapping an Oriental Rug. The polyurethane will provide protection from dangerous dampness and even the dreaded insects that would love to find their way into your rug! The polyurethane will allow the fibres of your rug to breathe.
Never use plastic as this will trap in any moisture or insects and could potentially rot your rug. You can find this polyurethane wrap at a home improvement store or a hardware store. You could also have your rus experts wrap it up for you.
A very good place to safely store Oriental Rugs would be in a temperature controlled storage unit, especially if the rug is going to be stored for a long period of time.
However, it's still advised to check up on your rugs even while in the storage unit on a regular basis in order to ensure that the surrounding environment has not contaminated your rugs in any way.
If you've decided to store your Oriental Rug at home it should be a cool and dry room or area. The light must also be controlled. While you don't want it kept in complete sunlight, you also don't want it in complete darkness.
The blinding direct sunlight could do some major fading of your Oriental Rug's colours. Also, a place that is completely dark without any light at all is not ideal.
For example, the darkness and stillness of an attic is never a good option because moths and other insects love a dark and undisturbed rug, and would happily eat your precious area rug in a minute.
If you decide on a basement or garage, putting your handmade rugs on a concrete floor is not advisable. The concrete floors change temperature and have too much moisture in them causing the concrete to sweat. This is not something you want your rug on top of.
Moisture is an enemy that could also mean trouble. Any moisture could easily turn into mould, which could greatly damage your Oriental Rug, leaving it with awful damp or foul smell.
A finished basement or a spare room is a better choice. A wrapped and rolled rug could be kept on a table or on a shelf. Or even a couple of two by fours could help by elevating it.
Never stand your Persian Rug up on ends as this could very easily change the shape of your rug, making it uneven when unrolled. No one wants to unroll their rug and find a warped looking rug.
The one benefit of storing your rug at home is being able to unroll the rug and check on it. Even though you might have taken all of these precautions into consideration, a check up on your rug once a month is ideal.
If it's going to be stored for 6 months or more in your home, it wouldn't hurt to also give it a regular vacuum. After any length of time in storage, it's always a great idea to give you're a rug professionally carpet cleaning again.
It's also exciting to re-open your Persian rugs that you haven't seen in so long. Even though these storage steps seem like a lot of work, it's all worth it to protect your treasured rug.
If you are safely storing Oriental rugs, you'll help extend the life, value, and beauty of your precious rugs. After all, a beautiful Persian carpet is meant to be enjoyed for generations.

]]>Something is eating my carpet! How to get rid of carpet moths naturally? Don't let these moths keep you up a night. If you've recently encountered these pesky, nasty creatures in your home, you are in for a fight! Moth damage can destroy your precious area rug. We want you to win!
The life cycle of the evil moth[/caption] Here are some tried and tested solutions to help you sleep better at night and keep your precious Oriental rugs safe and sound from extensive moth damage. The first thing that needs to be done is vacuuming, and when I say vacuuming I mean the kind of vacuuming your mother would do (or Martha Stewart)! A deep, meticulous vacuuming of your Oriental Rugs is extremely important at this point. If the Oriental Rug is not huge, a good old fashion shake, done outside, could also be beneficial. Shaking your Area Rug and vacuuming will help to dislodge any sticky reside or webbing, or larvae that these yucky moths could leave behind. Be sure to vacuum both the front and back of your Oriental Rugs. That's right, the back is where they could be hiding! After the extreme work out you'll get from the thorough cleaning of your area rugs, you will most definitely have to clean out your vacuum, filter and all. It would be detrimental to run the risk of the eggs hatching inside your vacuum and then come flying out! Don't forget the parts of the Oriental Rugs that are underneath furnitures like a sofa, chair or bed, need to be cleaned as well. Moths love very dark places, and are very good at hiding! Unfortunately, if you've found one moth, or the sign of a moth in any Oriental Rug, that means that every single Oriental Rug in your home could be at risk. Keeping everything clean and vacuumed on a regular basis is very important. It goes a long way in the prevention of moths. Oriental Rugs that are exposed to heavy traffic and sunlight have a lesser chance of incurring a moth problem. Moths love the dark, so any corner or side of a rug that is covered by furniture should have special attention. One of the best strategies against an infestation of moths- keep things clean. A weekly vacuuming goes a very long way in keeping these pests at bay. While vacuuming you could be removing the larvae or eggs without even knowing it. The benefits are clear.
Faded Rugs
Ultraviolet rays are a very powerful force, and can, unfortunately, significantly damage your precious Oriental Rugs! Flooding sunlight streaming through a window is beautiful, but having a faded Oriental Rug is not. Day after day, year after year, the sunlight shining in on Oriental Rugs that are not tended to, can have some very detrimental effects.Rotating your Persian & Oriental Rugs on a regular basis is a must. Looking at them carefully from different angles, and at different times of the day, to determine if any fading has taken place is your best protection against any type of sun damage. Save yourself some potential heartbreaking devastation. Save your precious Persian Rugs.
]]>Turkman rugs tend to have a red background, sometimes more of an earthy red tone. Usually, they have geometric shapes that run evenly across or vertically down the rug. Most often they are repeated and sometimes placed between much larger octagonal motifs. Some Turkman rugs can have intense pops of colour such as white, beige, blue and black.
