India has a long history of weaving rugs. It is thought that the rug weaving tradition began in 1530 when Persian master weavers began to teach and train the weavers of India about the rug making process. The most famous Indian Rugs are antique Indian Rugs which were originally made in Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal.
Indian rugs are often times designed after very famous Persian Rugs, such as Kashan and Tabriz. This does not mean that they are inferior. They are just different. Using courser wool, distinctive dyes, and unique weaving techniques.
Indian Rugs are usually thick and dense in nature, making them a very durable heavier type of rug. Indian Rugs are ideal for high traffic areas of your home.
